Dhaka, June 5: Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande visited Bangladesh on Monday at the invitation of Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.

On the first day of the visit, he paid a courtesy call on the Bangladesh Army Chief at the Army Headquarters and thanked him for inviting him.

During the meeting, apart from mutual exchange of favors, they discussed the existing good relations between the two countries and various issues of cooperation for future progress. Before arriving at the military headquarters, General Manoj Pande paid tribute to the memory of the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War of Bangladesh by placing wreaths at Shikha Anirban.

He was then given a guard of honor by a smart contingent of the army at Senakunj and planted a tree sapling there. He will attend the closing parade of the 84th BMA long-term course of the Bangladesh Military Academy at Bhatiari, Chittagong tomorrow, Tuesday, inspecting the parade and receiving greetings as the chief guest.

This visit of the Indian Army Chief is expected to play an important role in improving the mutual relations between Bangladesh and India. After the tour, he will return to India on June 7.
