Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 24: The Indian Coast Guard has rescued 32 Bangladeshi fishermen floating in the sea and handed them over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

The fishermen's fishing boat sank due to bad weather. After their rescue on August 19 and 20, the Indian Coast Guard ship Barad delivered these fishermen to the Coast Guard ship Tajuddin on Tuesday (August 23).

After the fishermen were brought to the Coast Guard West Zone Headquarters in Mongla on Tuesday night, they were handed over to the trawler owners, Mahajans. The rescued fishermen said that the houses of these fishermen are in different areas of Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, and Bhola.

Coast Guard Headquarters Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi said that due to engine failure in adverse weather conditions, fishing trawlers FB Jannatul Ferdous, FB Abdullah-01, and FB Mae Doa drifted into Indian waters. The Indian Coast Guard patrolling the sea rescued 10 fishermen in the first phase around 7:30 am on Saturday. After that, 22 more fishermen were rescued in stages for two days.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka said in a message that these fishermen were given food, water, and medicines after being rescued in the sea. Later they were handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. As close partners in the interests of both sides in the maritime region, the coast guards of the two countries carry out regular search and rescue operations.
