Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 23: Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has invited his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr. A K Abdul Momen to the next meeting of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) in the first half of the current year.

The invitation came during Dr. Momen's bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart on Monday during the EU Ministerial Forum on Indo-Pacific Cooperation in Paris. This was stated in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Tuesday.

At the meeting, the two ministers stressed the need to conclude the meeting of the respective Joint Working Group before the JCC meeting. The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh reiterated the importance of resolving the Teesta water sharing issue. Jaishankar reiterated his government's policy position on the issue. They agreed to continue the ongoing discussions on the Kushiyara River.

Dr. Momen called on India, as a member of the UN Security Council, to remain committed to resolving the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.

Both the Ministers felt that Bangladesh-India relations have reached a new high in 2021 through the visit of the President and Prime Minister of India to attend the Mujib Centenary celebrations.

The two ministers also recalled the successful celebrations in 18 cities around the world to mark Friendship Day on December 6, 2021. The Indian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction that the meeting was held on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.

In a tweet, Jaishankar said India is committed to taking Bangladesh-India relations to a higher level in 2022.
