Myanmar blames Arakan Army-ARSA for border incidents

Dhaka, Sepetember 20: Myanmar has blamed Arakan Army and the ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) for recent border incidents, including shelling, on Bangladesh territory. They say that the rebel groups are doing such thimgs to destroy the existing cordial relations with Bangladesh.

On Monday (September 19), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar called Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, the ambassador of Bangladesh assigned to the country, and gave this explanation. The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar Wunna Maung Lwin met with the Ambassador of Bangladesh. Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar issued a press release about the meeting.

It is said that during the meeting, Wunna Maung Lwin explained that the Arakan Army and ARSA forces fired mortar shells at the local border police on September 16. Three of their mortar shells fell on the territory of Bangladesh. The Arakan Army and Arsa also launched attacks on September 17 targeting local border police. At that time also nine mortar shells fell on the territory of Bangladesh.

In the meeting, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar said that the Arakan Army and ARSA forces are deliberately attacking to destroy the existing cordial relations between Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Wunna Maung Lwin stated that the highest precautionary measures should be taken at the border to avoid these incidents. He said that Myanmar always abides by bilateral and international agreements and laws, and respects the integrity and sovereignty of all countries, including Bangladesh. The director general of the country's foreign ministry also said that Myanmar will work with Bangladesh to maintain peace and stability in the border areas.
