Islamabad, May 24: Pakistan has confirmed that its Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony as India's new Prime Minister on May 26 in New Delhi.

"The Pakistan Prime Minister will be visiting India for Narendra Modi\'s swearing-in ceremony," said Tariq Azim, the media advisor to Sharif\'s party the Pakistan Muslim League (N) [PML(N)], on Saturday.

"He will be in India only for a day. But we hope it will be more than just a photo opportunity and a handshake," he said.

"There was no dissent between the Army and the authorities over the issue. After consultations, they arrived at a consensus that the PM should attend the event," Azim said.

He said Sharif is hopeful about a good relation with Modi.

"We feel there have been too much apprehension about the new Indian PM. He has got the mandate and we believe that we can work with anyone who is elected as the leader," he said.
