Islamabad / Dhaka, March 24: The OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) has unanimously adopted a resolution entitled "Situation of the Rohingya Muslim Community in Myanmar" to keep up the pressure on Myanmar.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (March 23).

According to the statement, Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen led a five-member Bangladesh delegation to the 48th CFM meeting in Islamabad held on March 22-23 on the theme "Partnership for Unity, Justice and Development".

It discusses various political, economic, social, cultural and security issues. In his speech, Masood called on the member states and the international community to play an active role in resolving the Rohingya issue.

He called on the member nations to continue their pressure on Myanmar to ensure safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas, and to make voluntary contributions to OIC funds to handle cases against Myanmar in the International Court of Justice.

The Foreign Secretary reiterated Bangladesh's continued engagement with the OIC, which has always been guided by the principles of peace, prosperity and development. He called for fair distribution of corona vaccine and transfer of vaccine technology and highlighted the need for prudent management of Bangladesh's economy in the Covid-19 situation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Bangladesh delegation was joined by Bangladesh's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, an open meeting of the OIC ad hoc ministerial-level committee on accountability for human rights violations against the Rohingyas was also held during the CFM on Tuesday.

Foreign Secretary Momen addressed the session on "The Role of the Islamic World in Promoting Peace, Justice and Harmony". Since August 25, 2017, more than 1.1 million Rohingyas displaced in Myanmar have been sheltered in the Cox's Bazar district of Bangladesh and most of them have returned after the military operation in Myanmar.
