New Delhi, Nov 26: India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said Tehelka Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal, who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman journalist of his magazine in Goa recently, should be sent to jail like self-styled godman Asaram Bapu.

"Why is Congress not taking any action? Tarun Tejpal should be sent to jail just like Asaram Bapu," said BJP leader VK Malhotra.

"Congress is trying to protect Tejpal," he said.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused any interim relief to Tejpal.

The court will hear his anticipatory bail plea on Wednesday.

"Tejpal\'s lawyers have alleged that the Goa Police is showing undue interest in the case and have registered a suo-moto case against him," reported CNN-IBN.

"As Tejpal is a resident of Delhi and the case has been filed in Goa, he had sought interim protection from the arrest till the time he can approach a court which has jurisdiction in Goa for relief," the news channel said.

Tejpal on Monday moved the Delhi High Court for an anticipatory bail.

He also sought change in the investigating agency and transfer of the case out of Goa.

The Goa Police on Tuesday recorded the statement of the woman journalist.

A team of the Goa Police visited Mumbai on Tuesday to record her statement.

Tejpal, late Nov 20 evening rescued himself from his job for six months after the journalist complained to Tehelka\'s managing editor Shoma Chaudhury that he allegedly pulled her into a lift in the Goa resort and sexually assaulted her.

Asaram was sent to the Jodhpur Central Jail on Sept 2 after a court remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody first for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.
