Hamilton, New Zealand, March 14: Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 9 runs to register their first-ever win in the ICC Women's World Cup.

Batting first at Seddon Park in Hamilton, Bangladesh scored 234 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Chasing 235, Pakistan women's team scored 225 runs for 9 wickets, and lost the match by 9 runs.

Playing the 50 overs World Cup for the first time, Bangladesh women's team got their first victory in their third match. On the other hand, Pakistan lost 18 consecutive matches in the ODI World Cup. The last time they won a match in the 2009 World Cup.

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and elected to field. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 234 runs in their 50 overs. It is Bangladesh's highest total in the ODIs.

Fargana Hoque (71 off 115 balls) was the top scorer. She was ably supported by Sharmin Akhter (44 off 55 balls) and captain Nigar Sultana (46 off 64 balls).

For Pakistan, taking 3 wickets for 41 runs, left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu was the pick of the bowler, while Fatima Sana, Nida Dar, and Omaima Sohail chipped in with a wicket apiece.

Chasing the target, Pakistan were cruising at 183/2, with 8 overs left and 8 wickets in hand. Thereafter, they inexplicably allowed the pressure to get to them to slip to 188/7 and in the end they lose the match by 9 runs.

Pakistan's Sidra Ameen scored 104 off 140 balls, but the middle and lower order did not support her. It was Ameen’s maiden ODI century.

With Ameen going strong, at 155 for two after 37.5 overs, Pakistan seemed on course to register their first win in the tournament, but they suffered an astonishing collapse after Bangladesh's Fahima Khatun turned the match on its head with three quick wickets as Pakistan inexplicably lost five of their batters for just five runs to slip to 188 for seven and were eventually restricted to 225 for nine.

For Bangladesh, Fahima Khatun (3/38) was adjudged player of the match as she played an important role in Pakistan’s astonishing middle-order collapse. Besides, Rumana, Salma and Jahanara picked one wicket each.

Following the victory, Bangladesh is positioned at sixth on the table, with 2 points on the board. Australia is currently leading the points table with 6 points. Bangladesh women's team will face West Indies in their next match on Mar 18.
