Sports Correspondent, Dhaka, March 14: Nazmul Hossain Shanto was unsuccessful in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) or the recently concluded T20 series. Suffering from a run drought, the Bangladesh captain changed gears in batting with the format change. Shanto got three figures in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh beat the Lankans by 6 wickets. With this victory, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

On Wednesday (March 13), Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, losing all wickets and collecting 255 runs in 48.5 overs. The maximum 67 runs for the team came from Lianag's bat. Tanjim Shakib, Shariful Islam and Taskin Ahmed got 3 wickets each for Bangladesh.

In response, Bangladesh reached the port of victory after losing 4 wickets in 44.4 overs. Shanto scored the highest unbeaten run of 122 for the team. Moreover, Mushfiqur's unbeaten 73 runs came from his bat.

Bangladesh got off to a bad start chasing the target of 256 runs. Liton Das returned to Sajghar on the first ball of the innings. The opener was bowled by Dilshan Madushankar's delivery between good length and back of length on the stumps.

Another opener, Soumya Sarkar, could not survive after Liton got a golden duck. Madushanka bowled the fourth ball of the third over of the innings at short length. Soumya wanted to pull the ball slightly outside the off stump to the on side. He was caught square inside the 30 yard circle due to mis-timing. Soumya got out with 3 runs off 9 balls.
