Bangladesh beat UAE in last-over thriller by 7 runs

Sports Correspondent, Dubai, Sept 26: Bangladesh beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a last-over thriller by 7 runs in the first T20 in Dubai.

UAE won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 158-5 in 20 overs and set a target of 159.

Bangladesh's Afif Hossain and wicketkeeper-captain Nurul Hasan scored 77 (55) and 35 (25) respectively. Three Bangladeshi batsmen -- Sabbir Rahman (0 off 3 balls), Yasir Ali (4 off 7 balls), and Mosaddek Hossain (3 off 8 balls) -- could not score two-digit runs, while opener Mehidy Hasan scored 12 off 15 balls. Another BD batsman, Liton Das, scored 13 off 8 balls.

UAE bowler Palaniapan Meiyappan took two wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs, while Sabir Ali, Aayan Afzal Khan and Zawar Farid took one wicket each.

Chasing 159, Bangladeshi bowlers bowled out UAE for 151 runs in 19.4 overs and won the first T20 in a last-over thriller by 7 runs.

Chirag Suri scored the highest run (39 off 24 balls) for UAE in the innings.

Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan took three wickets each, while Mustafizur Rahman got two wickets. Two UAE batsmen got run-out.

Bangladesh will play UAE in the next and final match of the two-match T20 series in Dubai on Tuesday.
