Bangladesh fights back with two late wickets after Elgar, Bavuma's fifties take South Africa to 278/5
Port Elizabeth, South Africa, April 9: After the opening day's play of the second and final Test match of the two-match series, South Africa have scored 278 for the loss of five wickets. Three South African batsmen, Dean Elgar, Keegan Petersen and Bavuma, scored half-centuries at St. George's Park in Port Elizabeth.
After the home team won the toss and chose to bat first, South African captain Dean Elgar provided a solid start with his 70. Another opener Sarel Erwee scored 24, while No. 3 batsman, Keegan Petersen, scored 64 runs.
After coming at No. 4, Temba Bavuma played 162 balls to score 67. Ryan Rickelton, who came to bat at No. 5, missed his half-century for just eight runs, he scored 42.
Bangladesh found success through left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. Taijul claimed the crucial wickets of South African skipper Elgar, Petersen and Rickelton for his 3-77.
Kyle Verreynne (10) and Wiaan Mulder (0) are on the crease and they will bat on Day-2 (Saturday).
South Africa leads the two-match series 1-0 after its big win in Durban.
