Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 20: The first Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has ended in a draw.

After trailing by 68 runs, Sri Lanka scored 260 runs for the loss of six wickets in 91.1 overs till the fifth and final day of their second innings.

In the end, both teams accepted the draw. Sri Lanka scored 397 and Bangladesh 465 in the first innings. Bangladesh tasted the 18th draw in the 131st match in their Test history, and this is their fifth draw against Sri Lanka.

With this draw, Bangladesh got four points from the World Test Championship. Bangladesh is in the eighth place of the table with 1 win, 5 losses, 1 draw and 16 points in seven matches. Sri Lanka is in the fifth place of the table with 28 points, 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw in 5 matches.

Sri Lanka started their second innings in the afternoon of the fourth day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. At the end of the day, the visitors collected 39 runs for 2 wickets. As a result, the Lankans were trailing by 29 runs with 8 wickets in hand. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne was unbeaten on 18. The day before, Lasith Embuldeniya returned to the pavilion in the first ball of the 18th over.

So today, with the new batsman Kusal Mendis, Karunaratne came to bat in the morning on the fifth and last day. Kusal hit two fours off spinner Taizul Islam in the last five balls of the 18th over.

The second and final Test of the series will be played on June 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
