Bangladesh women decimate Thailand to kick-start Asia Cup campaign

Dhaka, October 1: Bangladesh women's cricket team's great form is continuing. Recently, the team returned home after winning the World Cup qualifiers and made a great start in the Asia Cup at home. In the opening match of the Asia Cup T20, the current champions won by bowling out Thailand for 82 runs with 9 wickets and 50 balls in hand.

Thailand won the toss and batted first at the Sylhet Divisional Cricket Stadium. Despite losing two wickets for 16 runs, the team was in a fairly good position at one time with 54 runs being scored for two wickets in the 12th over. Bangladeshi bowlers took the remaining eight wickets of Thailand for 28 more runs.

Phannita Maya top scored for the team with 26 runs, 20 runs came from opener Natthakan Chantham's willow.

Rumana Ahmed is the most successful bowler of Bangladesh. The legspinning all-rounder took three wickets for just nine runs in three overs. Nahida Akhtar, Soheli Akhtar and Sanjida Akhtar Meghla got two wickets each.

Bangladesh did not take much time to chase the small target. Two openers Shamima Sultana and Farzana Haque scored 52 runs without a wicket in the first 6 overs of the power play. Their 69-run stand was broken when Shamima returned on the verge of a half-century. Shamima scored 49 runs off 30 balls with 10 boundaries and was bowled by Thipatcha Putthawong.

But Bangladesh is on the verge of victory. Then when the score was tied, Nigar Sultana ended the match by hitting a six. He remains unbeaten on 10 runs from 11 balls. Farzana scored an unbeaten 26 off 29 balls.
