Dhaka, March 2: Star Engand batsman Dawid Malan played a valiant knock to help his team win against bangladesh in the first ODI of the ongoing series on Wednesday.

Just a few months ago, the Mirpur stadium witnessed the homeside defeat India. The crows were expecting a similar result in the first ODI against the world champions. However, it was Malan who single handedly won the game for the Three Lions.

After batting first, bangladesh folded for 209 runs. Even with such a low total, the Bangladeshi bowlers put up a fight, but could not get Malan out.

The southpaw's innings of an unbeaten 114 runs consisted of eight fours and four sixes. He was adjudged the Man of the Match.

This was Malan's first international outing in Bangladesh. Earlier he played in the Dhaka Premier League in 2013 and later in the Bangladesh Premier League as well for four seasons. Needless to say, the English batsman used his experience in the recently concluded BPL to good effect.

For Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 58 runs, while Mahmudullah Riyadh chipped in with 31. Among the English bowlers, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali and Adeel Rashid each picked up two wickets. The remaining two were shared by Chris Woakes and Will Jacks.

Apart from Malan, no other English batsman even cross the 30-run mark.

Taijul Islam with three wickets was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers. Mehidy Hasan Miraz accounted for a brace, while Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed picked up a wicket each.

England scored 212 runs and won the match with eight balls to spare.
