DMP bolsters security ahead of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021

Dhaka, January 5: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has made all preparations to ensure flawless security on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021.

On the occasion of Mujib Year, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021 will be held on January 10. The marathon race will start from the Army Stadium in the capital and end at Hatirjheel in the full and half categories.

A coordination meeting on safety and traffic management was held on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021 at DMP Headquarters on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by DMP Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam and was attended by Provost Marshal Brigadier General Abu Naser Md. Ilias. This was stated in a press release of DMP.

The security measures taken on the occasion of the marathon will include picket system on the marathon route, foot patrol, barricade checkpost system, rooftop duty, mobile patrolling and deployment of steel and video cameras. Also no floating shops will be allowed to sit on the marathon route. There will be a sweeping system on the marathon route with a bomb disposal unit and dog squad and a medical team, fire tenders and ambulances will be deployed.

The statement further said that 42.195 km full marathon and 21.97 km half marathon will start from Army Stadium and end at Hatirjheel.

The route will be Bangladesh Army Stadium-Kakli Crossing-Kamal Ataturk Avenue-Gulshan 2-Gulshan 1-Police Plaza-Hatirjheel (complete Hatirjheel will end with four rounds). 100 people will take part in the full marathon which will start on January 10 at 6:30 am.

On the other hand, the half marathon will start at 6:40 am with the participation of 100 people. It was learned from the meeting that all the participants in the marathon will have to undergo Covid-19 test and yield a negative result before taking part in the marathon.

It was further learned from the meeting that out of the foreign athletes participating in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021, 31 will participate in full marathon and six in half marathon.

Provost Marshal Brigadier General Abu Naser Md. Ilias said they had many events in the Mujib Year but could not be held due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This marathon event has been organized as part of the Mujib Year celebrations.
