Elections Elections: EC warns cricketer Shakib Al Hasan for violating code of conduct
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 25 December 2023: The Election Commission (EC) has warned star cricketer and Awami League nominated candidate for Magura-1 constituency Shakib Al Hasan for violating the code of conduct. This information was informed in a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Atiyar Rahman on Monday.
It is said in the letter, Shakib Al Hasan, the Awami League nominated candidate for Magura-1 seat, on his arrival to Magura from Dhaka on November 29, entered Magura town with a convoy of vehicles after a showdown from Kamrakhali area and attended a civic reception, causing obstruction to people's movement. This violates the provisions of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008.
On the other hand, the BNM nominated candidate of Khulna-6 seat, SM Newaz Morshed, along with hundreds of motorbikes and thousands of people, created a showdown at Koira Bazar along with the procession, causing disruption to the public movement. This violates the provisions of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008.
