Dhaka, October 25: A gritty Bangladesh side held their nerves to beat Netherlands by nine runs and registered their first win in the ICC T20 World Cup Super 12 round robin game in Hobart on Monday.

Asked to bat first, Shakib Al Hasan's men scored a paltry 144 runs for the loss of eight wickets, restricted by a disciplined Dutch bowling lineup.

While opener Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 25 runs off 20 balls, his partner Soumya Sarkar scored a run-a-ball 14.

Both Litton Das and skipper Shakib failed to impress with scores of nine and seven respectively.

However, a handy contribution from Afif Hossain (38 off 27) and lower-order batter Mosaddek Hossain (20 off 12) helped them reach the score.

For Netherlands, Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede picked up two wickets each, while Fred Klaassen, Logan van Beek, Tim Pringle and Shariz Ahmad picked up one wicket each.

Setting out to bowl, Bangladesh's ace pacer Taskin Ahmed picked up four wickets in his four overs for 25 runs. He was ably supported by Hasan Mahmud (2), Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar- one each.

The other two dismissals were run outs, as Netherlands were bowled out for 135 runs inside 20 overs.

For the Dutch, Colin Ackermann starred with the bat with a 62-run inning off 48 balls, but there was almost no support from the other end.

Taskin was adjudged the man of the match for his heroics with the ball.
