Football Mistakes cost Bangladesh the match against Lebanon
Dhaka, June 22: After the referee blew the final whistle, some of the Bangladeshi footballers sat down on the field, others looked skywards. The coaching staff in the dugout also showed disappointment. Bangladesh missed a great opportunity to get points against Lebanon, which is placed 100 ranks above Bangladesh. Jamal Bhuiyan and his men lost 0-2 goals despite fighting in the whole match.
Playing their opening match in the SAFF Championship at the Sri Kanterava Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday, Bangladesh defended well throughout the match. However, at the end of the match, in the 79th minute, they committed an error. They had to pay for that mistake. A simple delivery was mishandled and two of Lebanon's forwards took the ball into the box. Hasan made no mistake in sending the ball to Martuk in the net. Goalkeeper Zico stepped forward but was helpless. Defender Tariq Kazi sat down as soon as the ball crossed the goal line. Bangladesh conceded the goal because of his mistake.
Falling behind in the match, Bangladesh desperately tried to score. Coach Javier Cabrera tried his best to get back into the match by changing players and tactics. Bangladesh could not take advantage of the opportunity to equalize in 6 minutes of injury time. Another goal scored on the reverse counter attack. Khalil ensured victory for Lebanon. Bangladesh won the last match between the two teams in 2011 with a scoreline of 2-0.
Even though Bangladesh lost today's match, they played good football. Especially in the second half, after Xavi's three players changed at almost the same time, the control of the match was very much with Bangladesh. Bangladesh got the first best chance of the match in the 60th minute. A long ball from their own half saw Faisal Ahmed Fahim find the keeper alone. He entered the box with control of the ball and could not score despite finding the goalkeeper alone.
Before this attack of Bangladesh, however, Lebanon also missed a few opportunities. Entered the Bangladesh box several times through the right wing. Couldn't score. When the pace of the match was towards a draw, a mistake by the defenders of Bangladesh allowed Lebanon to return to the match.
Lebanon dominated the first half. Under the leadership of Tariq Kazi and Tapu Burman, the Lebanese could not break the Bangladesh defense in that way. Goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico also made two excellent saves. Bangladesh has focused more on defence. Bangladesh footballers have pushed the ball towards Sumon Raza several times to stop the attack of the Lebanese. Suman was in possession of the ball alone but could not compose the attack that way.
