Naim, Irene are now fastest youth in Bangladesh

Dhaka, March 5, 2023 : Naeem Sheikh of Khulna Division and Irene Akhtar of Rangpur Division became the fastest youths of Sheikh Kamal II Bangladesh Youth Games.

The last four events of the athletics discipline were held at the Army Stadium on the last day of the Games on Saturday.

Naeem Sheikh of Khulna division won gold in boys' 100m sprint with a time of 10.80 seconds. In the first Youth Games held in 2018, Hasan Mia of Chittagong Division became the fastest youth with a time of 10.60 seconds. This time Rabiul Islam of Khulna division won silver with a time of 10.90 seconds and Arif Billah of Rajshahi division got bronze with a time of 11.10 seconds.

Irene Akhter of Rangpur division won gold in women's 100m with a time of 12.20 seconds. This young woman from Rangpur division also won gold in 200m sprint earlier.

Rajshahi's Rupa Khatun became the fastest woman in the 100m sprint in the women's category with a time of 12.30 seconds. This time, Sultana Jinnat of Khulna division won the silver with a time of 12.50 seconds and Umme Sultana Popi of Rajshahi division won the bronze with a time of 12.60 seconds.

Mymensingh's Aslam Shikder won gold in the youth 800m race with a time of 1:59.77 minutes. Momunal Hossain Munna of Rajshahi division won the silver with a time of 2:01.84 minutes and Niamul Sheikh of Khulna division got the bronze with a time of 2:02.39 minutes.

Tanisha Akhtar of Chittagong won gold with a time of 2:33.07 minutes, Rishi Akhter of Dhaka division won silver with a time of 2:34.31 minutes and Shayla Khanam of Khulna division won bronze with a time of 2:36.81 minutes.

Chittagong division won the second Bangladesh Youth Games. They got 49 gold, 40 silver and 57 bronze medals. Runners-up Dhaka division got 46 gold, 39 silver and 61 bronze medals.
