Prime Minister announces financial awards, houses for women footballers
Dhaka, September 22: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced monetary awards to all the players of the Bangladesh women's football team in recognition of winning the title by defeating Nepal 3-1 in the SAFF Women's Championship.
The Prime Minister is currently in New York, USA to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The prime minister also announced to give houses to the footballers of the women's football team who need houses after returning to the country.
She directed the concerned to take necessary information about who needs a house to take the next step. Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim confirmed the matter to BSS.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Prime Minister directed the relevant authorities to take necessary measures to build a house for Bangladesh women's football team goalkeeper Rupna Chakma at her village home in Rangamati. Rupna Chakma was adjudged the best goalkeeper in the 2022 SAFF Women's Championship.
As pictures of Rupna Chakma's dilapidated house went viral on social media, Sheikh Hasina ordered the construction of a house for her.
The SAFF champions were accorded a warm welcome after returning home on Wednesday. They took part in the Victory Parade in an open bus with the trophy. The bus with the lovely pictures and logos of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Father of the Nation included a scene of the winning team hoisting the trophy after the SAFF Football victory.
Bangladesh achieved the final victory by defeating Maldives, Pakistan, India and Nepal in the tournament. Bangladesh scored 23 goals in the entire tournament and runners-up Nepal managed to score only one goal against them in the final.
