Shakib Al Hasan appointed new captain of Bangladesh ODI team
Sports Reporter, Dhaka, 11 August 2023: Finally the speculation is over. The name of Shakib Al Hasan has been announced as the new ODI captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon told the media on Friday.
Shakib is already leading the Test and T20. Bangladesh cricket is now under one captain in all three formats due to the responsibility in ODIs. The world's best all-rounder will be the captain of the Bangladesh team in the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
Liton Das and Mehdi Hasan Miraj were in the captaincy race with Shakib after Tamim Iqbal gave up the captaincy. In the end, BCB relied on experience.
Shakib has previously led the Bangladesh team in 50 ODIs. Among them, the win came in 23 matches. Tigers played in the World Cup under his leadership in 2011.
Tamim took over the ODI captaincy from Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in 2020. Under his leadership, Bangladesh finished in the top three in the ODI Super League. However, due to injury, Tamim became irregular in the team recently.
He announced his emotional retirement at the beginning of July. However, due to the intervention of the Prime Minister, Tamim had to come back from retirement. But as it became difficult to fight with the injury, Tamim decided to leave the leadership after discussing with BCB on August 3. Shakib replaced him.
