BCB President's Cup Sumon, Liton perform; Mahmudullah XI lift BCB President's Cup
Dhaka, October 26: A firm favourites in the final, Najmul Hossain's XI failed to lift the BCB President's Cup as senior pro Mahmudullah Riyad and his boys overcame the humiliating defeat in the league stages to clinch the trophy on Sunday.
Fast bowler Sumon Khan and stylish batsman Liton Das were the key players in making the final match one-sided.
At first Sumon fired with the ball and single-handedly tore apart the batting lineup of the Najmul XI, taking 5 wickets for only 38 runs. Later, Liton played an artistic innings of 68. His 96-ball innings comprised of 10 boundaries.
Mahmudullah XI got a big victory of 7 wickets with 20.2 overs or 122 balls in hand.
Batting first, Najmul XI were all out for 173 runs.
Another Mahmudullah XI batsman, Imrul Kayes also made fifty alongside Liton Das.
Imrul secured the title by hitting a pair of sixes off Naeem Hasan.
Liton, who had not scored too many runs in the previous four matches, hinted getting his form back by hitting a boundary in the second ball of the innings.
Liton scored a total of 43 runs in the first four matches of the tournament.
He chose the final match to get himself back.
He returned to the dressing room with the first ball of the 27th over. Mahmudullah XI had only 45 runs left to win.
The skipper, Mahmudullah, smashed three fours and a six in his 11-ball essay, making a quickfire 23 runs and taking his team across the finishing line.
