In the letter, the party has requested to nominate JP Chairman Ghulam Mohammad (GM) Quader as Leader of Opposition in place of Rowshan Ershad.

UP election: 148 Awami League, three JP and 49 independent candidates elected

Dhaka, June 23: In the first phase of Union Parishad (UP) elections, 148 candidates of Awami League (28 uncontested and 120 contesting), three from the opposition Jatiya Party, three from Jatiya Party (JP), one from Islami Andolan Bangladesh and 49 independents has been elected as chairman unofficially. The BNP, one of the chief opposition parties in the country, boycotted this election.
