Dhaka, Oct 28: Finally the wait is over! Another door has been opened by tunneling in South East Bengal. Its name is Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the tunnel around 11:40 am on Saturday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has announced that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the tunnel on October 28. Now some ancillary work is going on around the tunnel.

Dhaka, August 5: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under Karnaphuli River in Chittagong is getting ready for traffic as 98 percent of the construction work has been completed.
Bangabandhu Tunnel likely to be inaugurated on Feb 24 : Quader
Dhaka, January 14: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that Bangabandhu Tunnel is being built under the Karnaphuli river in the port city of Chittagong. It is the first tunnel in South Asia. The construction of the tunnel is about 95.50 percent complete. The tunnel is scheduled to be inaugurated on February 24.

Dhaka, November 26: According to Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Ahmed Kaykaus, traffic will start through the under-construction Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong by the end of January.

Dhaka, Ocotber 6: Construction of the second channel of the tunnel Bangabandhu tunnel under the Karnafuli river will be completed on Friday (October 8). As a result, its entrance will be opened that day.
