Goods unloading resumed at Mongla port as Cyclone Sitrang weakens
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 26: The Meteorological Department has withdrawn danger signal number 7 from Mongla seaport as Cyclone Sitrang has weakened into a deep depression. At the same time, the port authority has lifted its own alert-3. However, Mongla is still under local warning number 3. Meanwhile, 20 hours after the cyclone's landfall, the operations of the port have been normal since Tuesday.
Bangladesh to buy six vessels for modernization of Mongla port
Dhaka, November 27: The port authorities have taken various steps to modernize and increase the capacity of Mongla, the second largest seaport in the country. Six different types of vessels are being purchased at a cost of Tk 767 crore to facilitate the work of the port.

নিজস্ব প্রতিনিধি, ঢাকা, ২৪ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২০ : অনেক বছর থমকে থাকা দেশের অন্যতম সমুদ্র বন্দর মোংলা এখন কর্মচাঞ্চল্যে ভরপুর। শূন্যে নেমে যাওয়ার অবস্থা থেকে রক্ষা পেয়ে বর্তমানে দেশের সাগরপথ দিয়ে মোট আমদানির ৮ থেকে ১০ শতাংশ এখন এই বন্দর দিয়েই সম্ভব হচ্ছে। আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের আমলে এসে ঘুরে দাঁড়ানোর রসদ খুঁজে পেয়েছে এই বন্দর। বন্দর সংশ্লিষ্টরা জানিয়েছেন, চলমান উন্নয়ন কাজগুলো বাস্তবায়ন হলে এ বন্দর দিয়ে ভবিষ্যতে দেশের মোট আমদানি রফতানি ২০ শতাংশ পর্যন্ত বৃদ্ধি পাবে। এ বন্দরকে আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে পরিচিত করতে আরও উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে সরকার। সময়ের দাবি মেটাতে গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে ১০ প্রকল্প। ...
