Dhaka, March 9: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "On March 25, Ziaur Rahman shot dead many of those who were barricading in Chittagong. Not only that, Zia carried out the killings on both March 25 and 26. On the 27th, Zia went to unload weapons from the Swat ship. Our freedom fighters stopped him so that he could not take down his arms." 

Yet to decide on Zia's title cancellation: AKM Mozammel Haque

Dhaka, March 6: Mentioning that no decision has been taken to cancel the title of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, only a recommendation has been made, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said at a meeting that actions will be taken after receiving the report of the inquiry committee.

Zia is the father of distorting the history of Liberation War: Obaidul Quader

Dhaka, February 27: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has termed BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman as the father of distorting the history of the Liberation War. He made the remarks while addressing a conference of Awami League at Ullapara Upazila in Sirajganj on Saturday.

Dhaka, February 12: Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said that there is documentary evidence that Ziaur Rahman was involved in the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

At 6:34 a.m. on Wednesday (December 16), respects were paid on behalf of the President and the Prime Minister.

Democracy must be institutionalized to reap the benefits of independence: President Hamid

Dhaka, December 16: President Md. Abdul Hamid emphasized on institutionalising democracy to bring the benefits of independence to the doorsteps of the people and said that a culture of mutual tolerance and mutual respect must be built for this. The President said this in a video speech recorded from Bangabhaban on the occasion of the 50th Great Victory Day.

Genocide: Protesters gherao Pakistan embassy, demands apology

Dhaka, December 15: Protesters of an organisation gheraod the Pakistani embassy and issued a memorandum demanding an apology from the country to Bangladesh for the genocide and intellectual killings of 1971. Bangladesh Muktiyuddha Mancha held a rally at the foot of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University on Saturday afternoon demanding the same.

Bangladesh to enroll 1,222 martyred intellectuals

Dhaka, December 14: It has been decided to enroll 1,222 martyred intellectuals of the country. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the committee on compiling a list of martyred intellectuals on Sunday. The meeting was held in the conference room of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs under the chairmanship of Secretary of the Ministry Tapan Kanti Ghosh.

Dhaka, December 14: Bangladesh is observing Martyred Intellectuals Day today (December 14). On this day in 1971, the occupying Pakistani invaders and their ally Razakar Al-Badr, Al-Shams jointly planned to assassinate the best intellectuals of Bengal.

Commission to be set up to find those behind Bangabandhu's assassination

Dhaka, November 20: Law Minister Anisul Haque has said a commission is being formed to find out those behind the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also said that discussions are underway on the process of formation of the commission. The minister made the remarks in response to a question from Monira Sultana, a member of the reserved seat in the National Assembly, on Thursday (November 19).
