UN special rapporteur praises poverty alleviation in Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 29: The United Nations special rapporteur on Poverty and Human Rights, Olivier De Schutter, praised Bangladesh's significant progress in poverty alleviation. The UN special rapporteur met with the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

South Asian countries should work to alleviate poverty: PM Hasina

Dhaka, October 26: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that South Asian countries should work together to free themselves from the curse of hunger and illiteracy and for the welfare of the people of the region. She made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Ahmed Siddiqui at Ganobhaban on Monday (October 25). After the meeting, prime minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
