Bangladesh prioritizes good relations with its neighbors

Dhaka, April 12: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh gives great priority to good relations with neighboring countries. The Prime Minister said this in a farewell meeting with Professor Sudarshan DS Seneviratne, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Dhaka at Ganabhaban on Wednesday (April 12). Later, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists.

Bangladesh gives Sri Lanka 6 more months to repay loan

Dhaka, January 13: The government of Bangladesh gave a loan of 20 crore dollars to Sri Lanka from the foreign exchange reserves of the central bank. Bangladesh has given the country six more months to repay that debt. The Board of Directors of Bangladesh Bank has decided to extend the time.

Bangladesh lags behind Sri Lanka in Global Hunger Index

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 14: Bangladesh's position in the Global Hunger Index (GSI) has deteriorated compared to last year. Bangladesh was in the 76th position last year, now it has moved to the 84th position. Bangladesh is ahead of neighbouring India (107th) and Pakistan (99th) but lags behind Sri Lanka which is in a major economic crisis. Sri Lanka is in the 64th position on the list.

Bangladesh will never become Sri Lanka: PM Hasina

Dhaka, August 30: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina firmly said that Bangladesh will never fall into a situation like Sri Lanka from its development course, but will move forward by facing all global challenges. She said, "Remember one thing (to party leaders and workers) that Bangladesh will never be Sri Lanka, it cannot be."

Dhaka, August 23: The London-based daily Financial Times (FT) recently published an interview with the Finance Minister of Bangladesh A.H.M.Mustafa Kamal.  As per the report, Mustafa Kamal warned that developing countries must think twice about taking more loans through China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as global inflation and slowing growth added to the strains on indebted emerging markets.

Food and foreign exchange crisis in Sri Lanka: Bangladesh sends more money on an emergency basis

Dhaka, September 1: Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency in the face of an acute food crisis. The country has not been able to import the required food due to the depletion of foreign currency in the local private banks. In this situation, Bangladesh has extended a helping hand to the neighboring country on an emergency basis. On Tuesday (August 31), Bangladesh Bank released another USD 10 crore for Sri Lanka, amounting to about Tk 852 crore in domestic currency.

Global Peace Index: Bangladesh third most peaceful Asian nation, ahead of India, Pakistan

Dhaka, June 17: In the Global Peace Index (GPI), Bangladesh has gone up seven places in 2021 compared to 2020. The World Peace Index is compiled by Sydney-based think tank Institute for Economics and Peace. Bangladesh is placed 91st in the list with a score of 2.068.

Hasina-Rajapaksa wants to increase trade between the two countries

Six MoUs signed between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

Dhaka, March 20: Six MoUs have been signed between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The bilateral agreements were signed at a bilateral meeting between the two countries at the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday (March 20) at 12 noon.

Dhaka, March 20: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has sought Sri Lanka's active co-operation in repatriating the displaced Rohingya people of Myanmar.
