Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 4 September 2023: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate has found preliminary evidence of smuggling of 3 crore 53 lakh 66 thousand 918 USD against 10 exporters of Dhaka and Gazipur under the guise of exporting ready-made garments. The amount of money in Bangladeshi currency is about Tk 300 crores.

5 metric tons of vegetables went to India through Akhaura port

Chittagong port witnesses drop in import-export in October

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 5: A downward trend has been seen in the handling of import-export goods at Chittagong port. After the months of August and September, the handling of import-export goods decreased in the main seaports of the country in October. Traders believe that this has happened due to the situation of Russia-Ukraine war, the global recession and the dollar crisis, which discourages the import of various products as well as the decrease in exports.

Trade deficit in three months of current fiscal year is $754 crore

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 4: Since the beginning of the financial year, there has been a large trade deficit for three consecutive months as the export income is less than the import. In the first three months (July-August-September) of the current fiscal year 2022-2023, the trade deficit stood at 754 crore 80 lakh dollars. At the same time, there was a deficit in the current account balance of foreign transactions of 361 crore dollars.

Upward trend of import expenditure going downwards

Dhaka, May 13: Despite the increase in remittances and export earnings for several months, the country's economy has come under some pressure to meet the cost of importing goods. The situation has reached such a stage that in just a few days, the value of money has to be devalued against the dollar. Besides, Bangladesh Bank has to take several more steps to overcome this pressure. Bangladesh Bank instructed the banks to provide necessary dollars as well as discourage the import of luxury goods. In this context, the import pressure has already come down.

Record trade deficit in 9 months

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 9: In the first nine months of the current (2021-22) fiscal year (July-March), the overall trade deficit has stood at about 25 billion or 2,490.7 crore dollars. The amount in Bangladeshi currency (calculating 1 USD = Tk 86.50) is about Tk 2 lakh 15 thousand 321 crore.

BGMEA wants opportunity to import raw materials through all land ports

Dhaka, August 16: BGMEA, an organization of garment manufacturers and exporters, has sought the facility of import and partial shipment of raw materials in the textile and garment sector through all land ports including Benapole. BGMEA president Farooq Hasan made the demand in an application along with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Saturday. The petition calls for land port storage, warehousing capacity and increase in manpower to overcome the crisis in Corona.
