Dhaka, April 2: The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has decided to close the National Zoo in Mirpur and Rangpur Zoo in the capital due to the outbreak of the epidemic coronavirus. Iftekhar Hossain, the ministry's public relations officer, said on Friday (April 2nd) morning that the Bangladesh National Zoo and Rangpur Zoo in Dhaka's Mirpur would remain closed to visitors until further notice to prevent corona infection.

Last Monday (March 29), the government issued a circular with 18-point directives restricting all kinds of public gatherings in the current situation of coronavirus infection, banning all kinds of public gatherings in high-infected areas. This instruction has to be followed for the next two weeks.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim has called upon all concerned to extend necessary cooperation regarding the decision to close the zoo.

He said it has been decided to close the National Zoo and Rangpur Zoo under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock from today until further orders so that coronavirus infection does not spread through the presence of visitors at the zoo. The government is taking all possible steps to prevent the spread of the virus again.

The Prime Minister's Office has already issued 18-point directives on the existing situation of corona infection. I urge the people to follow the instructions of the government.

Earlier, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock announced the closure of the National Zoo on March 20 last year due to an outbreak of coronavirus. After seven months of closure, the zoo was allowed to open conditionally on the first day of November.
