Bangladesh-India flight service resumes today

Dhaka, October 28: Flights to various destinations in India are set to resume on Wednesday, after an eight-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic,  following an air bubble offer from India.

India shut down flights on March 12 to prevent coronavirus infection. With no flights operating students, businessmen, patients and citizens of the both countries were affected.

On the basis of the bilateral agreement, 56 flights will be operated every week.

According to the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), passengers in 9 categories except tourists will get the opportunity to travel. In addition, three associates will be allowed to accompany one patient on a medical visa.

According to sources, three airlines from Bangladesh and five from India will operate flights to Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines and NovoAir will operate flights on behalf of Bangladesh.

In addition, five Indian airlines: Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet, Vistara and Go-Air, will operate flights.

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, CAA announed the suspension of flight operations with all countries apart from the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong,  and Thailand from March 21 to 31. All domestic passenger flights were also cancelled.

Another order then banned flights to all countries except China until April 7.

The ban was extended to April 14, April 30, May 7, May 16, May 30 and June 15 in coordination with public holidays.

Flights from Dhaka to London and Qatar were allowed fom June 16. Following this, flights to other countries are being launched.
