Dhaka, May 8: Bangladesh and six other countries have been added to the French government's mandatory quarantine list.

Passengers from Bangladesh, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar will have to stay in a mandatory 10-day quarantine when they arrive in France, local news agency AFP reported on Friday, citing official sources.

India was added to the list last month due to a massive increase in coronavirus infections in the country. Just the day before, France banned all flights to Brazil. The French government took this step to stop the P1 variant of Brazil.

Also on the quarantine list are Argentina, Chile and South Africa. Passengers from these countries must have a coronavirus PCR test within 36 hours before entering France. However, sources said the rules for newly added countries would be lifted by the end of this week.

Arriving in France, these passengers must show that they have a place to stay for quarantine. They can leave the quarantine area for two hours every day.

Coronavirus infections have been on the rise in France since December last year. In early April the daily infection reached 60,000. However, the infection has started to decrease again. Although it is still in alarming condition.

As many as 21,712 people were infected with the Covid in France on Thursday. Besides, 219 people have died. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stood at 57,28,090. A total of 1,05,850 people have died from the virus.
