Dhaka, Feb 22: After a long wait, the Bogra-Sirajganj rail project is about to end the long suffering of the northern districts of Bangladesh.

If the project is implemented, the distance between the capital Dhaka and Bogra will be reduced by 112 km and the travel time of the passengers will be saved by more than three to four hours.

The project is also expected to boost trade in the country.

About five and a half years after the approval of the project, the Bogra district administration started the process of land acquisition for the construction of this railway.

Officials related to the project said that the construction work will start at the beginning of next year.

According to project officials and railway sources, there is no direct railway line between Bogra and Sirajganj, but the distance between the two districts is only 72 km.

Due to this, the trains of this region have to travel about 120 km via Santahar, Natore and Ishwardi in Pabna to reach their destination.

While it takes six hours to reach Dhaka by road from Bogra, it takes more than 10 hours by train.

If the direct railway line from Bogra to Sirajganj is opened, the communication system of at least eight districts of Rangpur region will be improved. The trade and commerce of Jaipurhat and Naogaon of Rajshahi division will also improve. This railway project could change the face of the region.
