Cox's Bazar to be connected to rail network this year

Dhaka, January 9: Cox's Bazar, a tourist city, once had a dream to establish rail links with the rest of the country. The government is making that dream a reality. Chittagong's Dohazari to Cox's Bazar railway project is progressing rapidly with the target of completion in 2024. However, the project officials claim that tourists can travel to Cox's Bazar by train from June to October this year.

The project officials claimed that 80 percent of the work has already been completed. The people of Cox's Bazar hope that the dream of a railway will become a reality this year if the work goes ahead as planned.

According to the information, the demand for the development of the communication system of the entire country including the capital to facilitate the modern communication system with tourist cities has been for a long time. In this context, the present government has taken up the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway line expansion project as demanded by the post-independence period besides upgrading the Cox's Bazar airport to an international airport.

Considering its importance, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone for the construction of the railway between Dohazari-Ramu-Cox's Bazar and Ramu-Ghumdhum on April 3, 2011. Meanwhile, 80 percent of the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar 100 km railway has been completed.

Before the end of the year 2023, the concerned officials of the project and railway ministry are promising that the railway will run in Cox's Bazar. People from all walks of life, including tourists, can easily come to Cox's Bazar by train from any part of the country. Similarly, the people of Cox's Bazar will easily go to all parts of the country. It will be easy to bring and take everyday products. This will increase tourist flow in Cox's Bazar. According to observers, the economic prosperity of Cox's Bazar region will turn in all directions if the railway is operational.

After recently inspecting the work of the railway project in Cox's Bazar, Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan said that the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway line will be launched by the end of October this year. Then people from all over the country will go directly to Cox's Bazar by train. After seeing the construction work of the iconic station in Cox's Bazar, the railway minister expressed this expectation while talking to the journalists and said, "Once it was a dream, now it is on the way to realization." People from all over the country are waiting to go to the tourist city of Cox's Bazar by train.

The Railway Minister said that trains will be run with high-quality coaches on the model of tourist coaches for Cox's Bazar. A new project has been adopted for this, and 54 coaches will be purchased under this project, which will have wide windows. People will get a chance to see the natural scenery easily.
