Cruise service to be launched between Dhaka and Colombo

Dhaka, November 1: A cruise service between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is being considered, according to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism. At the same time, it has been informed that a private airline of Bangladesh is ready to launch direct flights between the two countries. Sri Lanka's English daily Daily Mirror reported on Sunday (October 31st).

Citing the Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism, the Daily Mirror reported that Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Tareq Mohammad. The information was given at a meeting between Ariful Islam and Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. According to the decision taken at the meeting, cruise service will be launched between the two countries in future.

Sri Lankan Tourism Minister Ranatunga said more attention should be paid to the development of the tourism industry in the South Asian region through regional conferences like BIMSTEC and SAARC. These countries need to implement a joint tourism action plan through a conference of tourism ministers from South Asian countries.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism is expected to be signed between the two countries. A memorandum of understanding has been drafted and will be signed soon.

It may be mentioned that the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa came to Dhaka in March this year to attend the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence. At that time, it was decided to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

In a meeting with the Sri Lankan Tourism Minister, the High Commissioner noted the need for assistance to those involved in the Sri Lankan tourism industry for the revival of Bangladesh's tourism industry and requested the country to assist in that effort. In response, Minister Ranatunga said Sri Lanka was ready to come forward at any time.

According to the Daily Mirror, SriLankan Airlines currently operates direct flights between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. During the meeting, the High Commissioner said that a private airline of Bangladesh is ready to launch direct flights between Dhaka and Colombo.
