Dhaka, July 28: At Shimulia Ghat on the Padma in Munshiganj, on the 6th day of the lockdown on Wednesday, the pressure of Dhaka-bound passengers has increased again. Passengers are coming to Shimulia Ghat by ferry and private car from Banglabazar Ghat in Madaripur in violation of strict restrictions.

The ferry is carrying emergency vehicles as well as private cars, motorcycles and hundreds of passengers crossing the Padma River. At that time many people did not see the mask. Passengers and private vehicles have been stranded at the wharf since dawn. Passengers are getting on the ferry like the last two days.

Meanwhile, even though there is a police check post at the place adjacent to the ghat, passengers are coming from the other side and avoiding the check post.

There is no effective initiative in controlling the crossing of passengers and vehicles at the check post. CNG-powered autorickshaws are running from one check post to another. Meanwhile, some rented microbuses have also been seen plying. Harassment of passengers in these vehicles is extreme. They have to pay several times more rent. Passengers are running to their destination despite suffering on the way.

In this regard, TI of Mawa Traffic Police Zakir Hossain said, at present there are 20 to 25 goods vehicles at the wharf. There is no passenger pressure on this side. However, there is passenger pressure on the other side.

Faisal Ahmed, Shimulia Ghat Manager (Commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said there are currently seven ferries plying the route. Passengers from the other side are coming to the ferry with the car while picking up the goods car.
