Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway to be inaugurated on Nov 12

Dhaka, Oct 9: The newly constructed railway from Chittagong's Dohazari to Cox's Bazar will be inaugurated on November 12. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be present in person to inaugurate this railway.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan gave this information while talking to the media on Sunday.

He said that the Prime Minister has given time on November 12 to inaugurate the railway from Chittagong's Dohazari to Cox's Bazar. On that day, he will inaugurate the train movement on this route from his physical presence.

According to railway sources, experimental trial run will start on October 15 from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar railway. After a series of tests, it will be inaugurated on November 12. However, since the renovation work of Kalurghat bridge in Chittagong is going on, commercial train movement may start on this route from next December.

Incidentally, the government took up the single line dual gauge track construction project from Dohazari to Ramu to Cox's Bazar and from Ramu to Ghumdhum near Myanmar in 2010. In the first phase, a 100.83 km single line dual gauge railway line is being constructed from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar via Ramu. More than 90 percent of the project has been completed.

Nine railway stations, four major and 47 minor bridges, 149 box culverts and 52 round culverts have been constructed under the project. Besides, there are 96 level crossings.
