Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 10: Bangladesh and Hellenic Republic Greece have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on manpower export. As a result of the signing of this MoU, Greece will provide employment opportunities to 4,000 Bangladeshi workers every year.

The MoU was signed between the two countries at Prabasi Kalyan Bhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday (February 9). The agreement was signed by Imran Ahmed, Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, on behalf of Bangladesh and Panatios Mitarachi, Greece's Minister of Migration and Asylum, on behalf of the country.

Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr. Ahmed Munirush Salehin and Secretary General of the Republic of Hellenic Greece Petroclas Georgioziadis were also present at the event.

As a result of this memorandum of understanding, employment opportunities have been created in Greece for Bangladeshi workers. At the same time, Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Greece will have the opportunity to work legally. Greece will provide employment opportunities to 4,000 Bangladeshi workers every year. They will be given a five-year temporary work permit.

Under the agreement, seasonal workers will be hired in the agricultural sector. In the future, the number of sectors will be increased based on the demand of both the countries. They will have to return to Bangladesh after five years. However, they can go to Greece for employment. At the time of application, valid travel document, valid work contract, sick insurance certificate must be submitted and the prescribed fee and expenses must be borne.

At a press briefing after the signing of the MoU, the Greek minister said the agreement will be implemented soon with the approval of the Greek parliament.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment said Bangladesh has signed the first MoU on employment with any European country. This will allow Bangladeshi workers to work legally in Greece. Once the recruitment process from Bangladesh is finalized, it will be possible to go to Greece at the expense of the full employers. He said, in this case, everyone should be careful not to fall in the trap of any broker or fraudster.
