Dhaka, December 11: Maldivian Airlines has been fined Tk 2.36 lakh for transporting passengers without a Covid-19 negative certificate. The company was fined by Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Magistrate's Court on Friday (December 11) morning.

An official of the Department of Health at the airport said that in the last 24 hours (from 10 am on December 10 to 8 am on December 11), a total of 5,736 passengers landed at Shahjalal Airport on 37 flights.

Out of these 37 flights, 200 passengers came on the Q-2 flight of Maldives Airlines. Of them, 82 had coronavirus negative certificates but the remaining 118 did not. They were sent to Uttara Diabari Quarantine Center for treatment. For this reason, the airline was fined Tk 2,000 per passenger by the airport magistrate court.

With the onset of the second wave of coronavirus and the rise in epidemic virus infections and deaths in many countries around the world, including Europe, America and the Middle East, airlines in almost all countries are transporting passengers in limited quantities. Besides, no country is allowing passengers to enter without a corona negative certificate. According to him, health monitoring has been intensified in all ports including air, sea and land including Shahjalal Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) recently made the Corona Negative Certificate mandatory for visitors to Bangladesh from abroad.

In this regard, the instructions signed by CAA member (Flight Standards and Regulations) Group Captain Chowdhury Md. Ziaul Kabir said that if you want to come to Bangladesh, all passengers have to undergo coronavirus test in PCR lab at most 72 hours before the start of the journey. Only negative passengers can come to the country in the test. You have to show that negative certificate at the airport. At the airport, those who have symptoms of corona infection will also be investigated. The directive was issued with effect from December 5.

But despite the instructions, various flights were carrying passengers without a negative certificate, showing various excuses. A total of 960 patients were sent to quarantine from December 5 to Friday, December 11.
