Dhaka, June 8: A total of 19 pairs of intercity and 10 pairs of commuter (including local) trains will run from tomorrow (Wednesday) across the country, including the capital. With this, the number of intercity trains will be 37 pairs and the number of commuter trains will be 14 pairs, which means more than 100 trains will run across the country from Wednesday (June 9).

As a result of the increase in the number of trains considering the passenger demand, more passengers will get the opportunity to travel by train in compliance with the required hygiene rules.

Md. Masud Sarwar, Manager, Kamalapur Railway Station, said that the train service has been suspended for more than a month and a half due to the coronavirus pandemic. At present 28 pairs of intercity and four pairs of commuter (including local) trains are running. Until now, 50 percent of the total train seats were sold only online, but from last June 4, advance sales of tickets for June 8 and beyond started at the counter. As per the government guidelines, half of the 50 per cent of the total train tickets, i.e. 25 per cent online and 25 per cent direct sales have started.

He said that as per the government guidelines, 50 per cent of the total seats have been sold and half of the train's capacity is being transported. Many passengers do not get tickets despite wanting to travel by train as there is a huge demand for passengers to travel by train.

He said an additional nine pairs of intercity and 10 pairs of commuter trains will run from tomorrow. This will give more passengers the opportunity to travel.
