Dhaka, February 10: The construction of the Padma Bridge infrastructure will be completed by June next year and will be opened for vehicular traffic, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said.

He said some misleading information about the extension of the dream Padma Bridge construction project has been spread through social media, which is not true. The extension till 2023 is for construction companies. If any repairs are needed, they will be given until June 2023.

He made the remarks in a video conference with officials of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) from his official residence on Wednesday (February 10th).

The bridge minister said the target is to complete the work by June 2022. All work will be completed before that. Referring to the proposal to extend the period till 2023 as part of the defect liability period, Obaidul Quader said that the extension is not related to the work of the main bridge, the defect liability period is usually taken to hold the contractors responsible for any major project. The bridge minister urged the people not to be confused about this.

Regarding BRTC, Obaidul Quader said that the ongoing trend of BRTC to reduce losses should be maintained. This organization has to come out of the circle of irregularities.

Regarding the vaccination of corona, the general secretary of Awami League said, people are getting vaccinated by registering with great enthusiasm. All the mischievous attempts of those who are spreading propaganda and rumors to create suspicion have failed again.
