Dhaka, December 26: A mobile court has fined Qatar Airways Tk 5 lakh for transporting a coronavirus positive passenger. The passenger was also fined Tk 10,000 for irresponsible behavior and sent to a hospital in Dhaka.

The fine was imposed on Friday (December 25) in the mobile court of acting magistrate Ali Afroz, who is on duty at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Airport sources said health officials checked the passengers' credentials as part of a routine program when Qatar Airlines flight QR-419 arrived on Friday afternoon. At this time a Covid-19 positive passenger was found. From there he was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital.

Executive Magistrate Ahmed Jamil said the corona positive passenger came to Bangladesh from Lebanon via Qatar. Although the certificate in his possession clearly showed that he was not positive, he left the country due to negligence and carelessness on the part of the airline authorities.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has a ban on passenger transport without a Coronavirus Negative Certificate.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours (from 8 am on December 25 to 8 am on December 26), 2,000 passengers arrived at Shahjalal Airport on 17 flights. Except for the passenger who came with Qatar Airlines, everyone had brought a coronavirus negative certificate.
