Dhaka, November 28: IT business incubators are being set up in the country's universities to work with higher technologies including IoT, robotics, cyber security to counter the competition of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

As part of this, the work of setting up IT Business Incubator of Chittagong University of Engineering (CUET) is progressing at a fast pace. On the other hand, the construction of a software technology park through the expansion of the Singapore-Bangkok market is nearing completion.

If these projects are implemented, the port city of Chittagong will be developed as an IT business hub.

State Minister for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said this while laying the foundation stone of a 'Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Center' on Saturday (November 28).

He further said that 'Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Center' is a unique gift of the Prime Minister for the people of Chittagong. The implementation of the 'Brain Child' project by Sajeeb Wazed, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information Technology, will not only eliminate unemployment but also create a leap forward in earning foreign exchange in information technology. Work will soon begin on setting up a high-tech park at the same location so that young entrepreneurs can move out of the IT Training and Incubation Center and work in a wide range of IT industries.

It may be mentioned that Bangladesh High-Tech Park Authority is setting up 'Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Centers' in Chittagong, Sylhet, Rangpur, Natore, Comilla, Netrokona, Barisal and Magura to create skilled human resources in the IT sector. Work on the project began in 2017 at a cost of about Tk 533 crore with the Bangladesh government's own funding.

At the end of the program, certificates were distributed among the trainees from Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Center and places were handed over to four institutions in Chittagong Software Technology Park.

Another project of the ICT department has provided training to around 2000 specially qualified persons across the country and provided employment to 560 people. State Minister for ICT Palak selected 12 people from among those trained in Chittagong and gave them laptops.

He said work on an e-learning platform, job portal and database development, which is especially useful for able-bodied people, is nearing completion.
