Cairo, July 16: At least seven people were killed during overnight clashes between supporters of the country's ousted president Mohamed Morsi and the police, reports said on Tuesday.

Several others were injured during the clashes.

The protesters blocked a road in Cairo and hurled rocks on the police, reports said.

The police lobbed tear gas to disperse them.

"The clashes came as a senior US envoy visited Egypt, saying it had been given a \'second chance\' at democracy," BBC reported.

"William Burns (US Deputy Secretary of State) met interim leaders but was snubbed by rival groups, including Mr Morsi\'s Muslim Brotherhood," it said.

After days of protests, the Egyptian Army on July 3 ousted the country\'s first democratically elected president Morsi just after one year in office.

He was taken into military custody the same night.

The head of country\'s Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, was sworn in as interim president on July 4.

Demonstrators across the nation accused Morsi of failing to tackle the economic and security problem since being elected a year ago.
