Cairo, Aug 17: Security forces cleared a Cairo mosque after a stand-off with supporters of Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi on Saturday, media reports said.

Morsi\'s supporters were holed up in the Al-Fateh mosque in Cairo.

Security forces and protesters exchanged gunfire as confrontation at the mosque continued for most of the day, reports said.

Egypt has been witnessing violent protests this week.

After days of protests, the Egyptian Army on July 3 ousted the country\'s first democratically elected president Morsi just after one year in office.

He was taken into military custody the same night.

The head of country\'s Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, was sworn in as interim president on July 4.

Demonstrators across the nation accused Morsi of failing to tackle the economic and security problem since being elected a year ago.
