Kyiv/Dhaka, March 10: The body of Mohammad Hadisur Rahman, the third engineer of MV Banglar Samriddhi cargo ship, who was killed in a rocket attack on the port of Olvia in Ukraine, will be taken to Bucharest, the capital of Romania, from Ukraine via Moldova on Thursday.

At 11:15 pm on Wednesday (March 9), General Secretary of the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association BMMOA Marine Engineer Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that the transfer of Hadisur's body from Ukraine to Romania was delayed due to lack of official people. But all preparations have been completed on Wednesday. A freezer van carrying Hadisur's body will leave Ukraine for Bucharest via Moldova on Thursday (March 10).

The cargo ship 'Banglar Samriddhi' owned by BSC was being chartered under the Danish company Delta Corporation. The ship sailed from Mumbai via Turkey to the Ukrainian port of Olvia on February 22. The ship carrying cement clay was scheduled to leave Olvia for the Italian port of Ravenna on February 24. But, the ship with 29 crew members on board had been stranded at the port of Olvia as the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.

Hadisur Rahman, the ship's third engineer, was killed in a rocket attack on March 2. The 28 surviving sailors of the ship and the body of Hadisur were rescued later in collaboration with an international voluntary organization.

On Saturday (March 5) at noon Bangladesh time, 28 sailors started walking for Moldova from a bunker (shelter house) adjacent to the Ukrainian port of Olvia. They crossed the Ukraine border on Sunday afternoon and reached Romania via Moldova.

Then at 12:01 pm on Wednesday, a Turkish Air flight carrying 28 sailors of MV Banglar Samriddhi landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Later at night, 12 of them boarded a NovoAir flight from Dhaka to Chittagong.
