Rome, July 24: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Italy on Sunday on a three-day official visit to attend the United Nations Food System Summit+2 Stocktaking Moment.

A regular Qatar Airways commercial flight carrying the Prime Minister and his entourage landed at Rome Fiumicino Airport at 1:40 pm local time (5:40 pm Bangladesh time) after a layover of around 1 hour at Doha's Hamad International Airport in Qatar. Earlier, the flight took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 5:05 am.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is attending the United Nations Food System +2 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+2) conference at the invitation of United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

The UNFSS+2 conference will be held from 24-26 July at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy under the theme 'Sustainable Food Systems for People, Planet and Prosperity: Diverse Pathways in a Shared Journey'.

In a media briefing on July 20, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said that two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) - 'Cooperation in Energy' and 'Cultural Exchange Programme' - could be signed between Bangladesh and Italy.

He said that the Prime Minister will address the official opening ceremony of the conference at the FAO headquarters as a special guest on July 24.

The forum will be attended by heads of state, heads of government, agricultural experts, food producers, scientists, researchers and other stakeholders.

After the inaugural function, the Prime Minister will attend a plenary session on 'Food System and Climate Action'. In the evening of the same day, he will also attend the inauguration ceremony of Bangladesh-Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Room at FAO Headquarters. FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Alvaro Lario will also pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister.

On July 25, the Prime Minister will attend the 'Regional Envoy Conference' organized with the ambassadors of Bangladesh posted in 15 European countries. Apart from this, Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. There will be MoU signing. She will attend a community reception organized by Bangladeshi expatriates in Italy. The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave Rome for the country on July 26.
