Dhaka, May 10: The whole world is devastated by the coronavirus infection. In such a situation, all the countries are insisting on making antibodies by applying vaccines in human body. A large number of people in Bangladesh have already been vaccinated with doses from the Serum Institute of India. But this time the government is going to bring Russian vaccine Sputnik-V. In this case, the Ministry of Finance has initially suggested to bring a total of 1 crore vaccines in 5 months at 20 lakh doses per month.

It is learned that the Department of Drug Administration has approved the application of Sputnik-V in the country after the overall verification and selection. Based on documents from the Department of Health, the Department of Health Services sent a letter asking for the opinion of the Department of Finance on the agreement to import vaccines from Russia.

The Finance Department has given its opinion on the basis of that letter. The Ministry of Finance has suggested that if there is an agreement on Russian vaccine, 2 million (20 lakh) vaccines will be brought every month. In this case, in the case of the purchase of the Sputnik-V vaccine for the time being 10 million (1 crore) dose of vaccine purchase agreement. However, the opinion is that the number of doses of this vaccine can be increased after the supply of 10 million doses.

According to the Department of Health, the Department of Health seeks the opinion of the Budget Division of the Ministry of Finance on May 7 on the proposed supply agreement for the purchase of the Sputnik-V vaccine in Russia on the basis of a letter from the Department of Health. The finance department sent a letter to the health service department on Sunday. Which has already reached the Secretary of the Department of Health.

It is said that 50 per cent of the advance for the purchase of the vaccine and the remaining 50 per cent can be paid through the LC after the vaccine is understood. Since the government will not use the vaccine for commercial purposes, the payment of the 0.1 per cent royalty mentioned in Clause 4.1 may be omitted. However, the cost of the vaccine (referred to in Clause 2.6) can be finalized through an inter-ministerial committee headed by the Health Secretary through negotiation.

It may be mentioned that on April 28, the Cabinet Committee gave approval for the production of vaccines in Bangladesh following the direct purchase procedure from Russia's Sputnik-V and China's Sinopharm.
