Zambia wants Bangladesh's help in agriculture

Dhaka, May 7: In addition to establishing good relations with the Bangladesh government and army, Zambia wants to take help of Bangladesh's expertise in agriculture. During a recent visit to Zambia by Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed, the country's acting defense minister, Wezi Lukhele, asked him to provide the assistance.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a formal meeting between General Aziz Ahmed and Zambia's acting defense minister Wezi Lukhele took place on May 3. During the meeting, various issues of cooperation and relations between the two countries were discussed.

Lukhele expressed the intention of the Zambian government to take help of Bangladesh's expertise in agriculture, including establishing improved relations with the Bangladesh government and army.

Later, General Aziz Ahmed met with Zambian Army Commander, Lieutenant General William Maipambe Sikazwe at the country's army headquarters. During the meeting, General Sikazwe expressed interest in increasing military activities between the two armies.

General Aziz Ahmed expressed his desire to conduct the Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) program in various fields, including the exchange of training activities with the Zambian Army. He also raised the issue of issuing "on arrival visas" to members of the military in Zambia, which General Sikazwe assured would be taken up by the relevant ministry soon.

General Aziz Ahmed met with Major General Benedict T Kalinda, Acting Commander of the Zambia Air Force, at the Zambia Air Force Headquarters. Maj. Gen. Kalinda expressed interest in training Zambia Air Force officers and members in various training institutes of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, which was welcomed by Gen. Aziz Ahmed. He also hoped that the relations between the two countries' armed forces would be further strengthened in the future.

During the visit, the Bangladesh Army Chief was given a guard of honor and a red carpet reception by two teams of the Zambian Army and Air Force.

Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed returned to Zambia at 4:30 pm on Thursday (May 6). He visited Zambia on April 30 at the invitation of the Zambian army commander.
