Bangladesh: COVID-19 positive cases reach 55,140

Dhaka: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh on Wednesday rose to 55,140 as 2,695 new cases have been detected in the last 24 hours.

Besides, 37 more people died from the disease, taking the number of deceased to 746, Additional Director General of Health Directorate Nasima Sultana said while presenting the regular health bulletin.

According to her, in the last 24 hours, 12,510 samples were examined and out of them 2,695 got positive results for the virus.

She said that as many as 470 more have made recovery from the disease, raising the total number to 11,590.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 382,766 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 6,467,333 people worldwide caught the virus and 3,078,403 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
